Good Old Friends Grant Proposal
11/21/2025
Biomedical Innovations
This project was intended for the development of a program that benefits the health of people in a local region that would be funded by a grant if chosen by the board over such. This grant proposal needed to consist of a purpose statement as the general problem and approach to it, a project overview as a captivating summary and introduction, a problem statement addressing statistical evidence that affirms the presence of the problem as well as any work that has already been done to address the problem though is not aligned with the proposed program, an addressing of overall focus and intended outcomes of the program, a list of specific measurable objectives that need to be met in order for the program to be started and function towards the goal along with a simple explanation of the actions performed in order to meet and measure such, a methodology that further specifies the steps that need to be performed to obtain the objectives including what is necessary to complete them and how/by whom the steps are performed, an evaluation plan that decerns the steps that will be taken to analyze the results of the program in how well the goal/objective is met by the end and throughout the program, and a list of sources that were used to support the proposal. This project was then presented to the class, from which the teacher acted as the grant approval board that would decide if the project would be approved by a committee. The grant proposal above was intended to convince the board that the loneliness and isolation of elderly people significantly had a negative effect on their health and that the presented program would help the elderly make friends with volunteering youth so as to prevent or treat loneliness and the resulting depression, stress and cognitive decline of which the money from the grant would be used to fund the activities the volunteers and elderly are doing and the support analytical/managerial team along with their products (i.e. advertisements, cognitive exams, surveys). In the support of such a program, it was decerned that a large percent of the elderly in the world and in the U.S. were lonely, feelings of loneliness/isolation, which could be alleviated through friendship, are a risk factor for dementia, heart disease, stress and depression which are then risk factors of suicide and type two diabetes, and programs like the one proposed have been effective in creating friendships in the Netherlands though have not been applied to many places. To perform this, sets of objectives were put in place including the development, composition and funding for a team that would ensure the steps of the program were being followed, would analyze how well the elderly were achieving the goal of friendship and decline in correlated health concerns and would develop new methods for completing the intended goals as is not specifically decerned in the methodology, the establishment of a short term analysis of the elderly participants through biweekly open ended surveys as well as a long term analysis through statistical evaluation of how many elderly participants were successful in making friends and having declined loneliness and correlated illnesses, and two advertising campaigns to enroll a high number of elderly participants and volunteers.
From this project, the significance of the concern relating to the elderly’s loneliness was affirmed and expanded upon. Furthermore, it was learned how to construct a plan that would be presentable to government officials in the form of a grant proposal. Specifically, it was noticed that the system established by the grant proposal was similar to the construct of science and engineering fair projects in the need for an address of the purpose, overview, supporting information, objectives, intended results, methodology, and analysis. Additionally, like an engineering project, the methodology can adapt in order to meet the objectives. Though it is noted that the grant proposal is not intended to be performed by those who proposed it, but instead by an organization that generally must follow the steps but is overall autonomous from the judgment of the developers of the project and adaptive within the bounds of the project, and is not an review of previous work, but an address of intended work. Furthermore, instead of the objectives being overarching steps that must be performed for the development of a physical object, they are more so for a social organization with an intended psychological and health effect.

Still Life Project and Memoir
2/13/2026
Literature IV
This project required the independent reading of an autobiography or set of memoirs to which the students would identify physical objects that were of relevance to the author in their understanding of self so as to aid in the understanding of a memoir so as to help the students in the writing of their own memoir. Thereafter, the students would analyze the relevance of such objects so as to create a justification for each. Specifically, in each justification, the students would identify the physical object in how it is used and relevant to the contents of the book, how the object and instances at which it is used reflect on the person in the memoir themselves and why such were chosen as to other options. At the same time in class, the students reviewed smaller self-reflective pieces and memoir authors understanding of the memoirs in order to define such ourselves. From the writing of the memoir, I learned that one can structure a memoir and self reflection generally with bits of factual information followed by the interpretation of such and as such, in those instances one’s own perspective should be emphasized over fact in order to communicate a human experience. Though, I not only learned that one does not have to concern oneself with fact only in that way, but also when memory is poor, it is better to write what bias may be currently applied to it now as to fully understanding how it was then as sometimes such is all one has and there is no other source of such. This of which was learned from a unique experience instead of the necessary process. I have also learned that one can reflect on more things that one is less sure of in communicating a common emotion as it may be learned as the memories come. Meanwhile, in the Memoir Still Life part, I was able to develop an understanding of how the use of physical materials can help in the development of themes and motifs of the person’s self-conception whether being used once in a larger more significant event or being used in several smaller events that collectively create an understanding of the person.
