Kendra is the Pharmacist Manager for the Publix Pharmacy at Lost Mountain Crossing which entitles her to completing both manager-oriented tasks including hiring/firing employees, managing and creating the pharmacy’s overall schedule and training pharmacist technicians and assistants as well as patient-oriented tasks such as filling prescriptions, distributing vaccine shots and counseling patients on what medications that they can and should take to best improve their health. Additionally, to maintain a license, she must have a few hours of continued education (CE) each year of which she and the rest of the practice perform through a CE website called Pharmacist Letter. This provides access to various recent scholarly peer-reviewed articles that may be of interest in a way that is understandable along with quizzes to aid the reader in giving assurance to their comprehension of the content.
In order to correctly distribute prescription medicine, vaccines and conciliation, a pharmacist must have a thorough understanding of how the medications function and will likely effect the patient both in benefits and complications which in itself requires a knowledge of both chemistry and biology. This includes side effects, influence of overdosing and underdosing of medication, drug interactions, etc. Furthermore, an understanding of how to calculate the correct dosage of a medication a person should take per day or of a vaccine should be given per listed is needed to assure proper care. Though, Kendra also has a pill counter available at her pharmacy which quickens the process of filling prescriptions which allows a patient to receive their medication after coming in with their prescription as well as allowing for more to be filled in less time generally.
